Pewter and White Metal Parts

So what's the difference between pewter and white metal?  Definitions vary from country to country.  In the US,  for example, it is common to refer to zinc alloys as 'white metal'.  Here in New Zealand,  and also in Britain and Australia,   the term white metal is used to describe alloys that have a melting point about the same as common 60/40 solder and they commonly have a significant lead content.   'Pewter' indicates an alloy that has no lead content or a very low lead content.   Our experience has shown that pewter tends to be more brittle than leaded white metal.  Our parts are made of whichever alloy renders the best detail in each case,   also having regard to the need for durability.
